Singaporean businessman Ooi Hoe Seong has personally confirmed that he has been divorced from actress Gong Li for three years, a Sichuan, China, newspaper reported.
He told West China City Daily in a telephone interview that the split was a mutual decision, and he and Gong, who married in 1996, remain friends.
In Thursday’s report, he was quoted as saying, ‘It’s true. This time it’s not a publicity stunt. We’re divorced.’ Speaking from Beijing, he said he and Gong have different careers and this caused them to drift apart, he said.
‘We’d been apart more often than together. There is more friendship than romance,’ he said, adding that they never quarrelled in their marriage, and there were no disputes over assets.
There are rumours that Gong, 46, has been living for six years with a French cameraman, identified in reports as Chang and who is 13 years her junior.
Pictures posted online showed her in Paris with what appeared to be a baby bump. Reports said they met on the set of Hannibal Rising in 2006.
But Mr Ooi denied the rumours, saying, ‘We split up in 2009. It has been three years since, not six years.’
