Many foreigners in Beijing have Chinese girlfriends or wives. Why do they date Chinese women? Sexual need, curiosity, or love?
To my surprise, a female American teacher told me that many Americans like dating Asian women because there is a lot of pornography sold in the US in which Asian actresses usually appear submissive and would like to do what men told them to.
I have to say if a woman could not judge whether a man really likes her or just her body, then she has to learn from experience. It could happen to a Chinese man too, not just for foreigners.
I asked some foreign friends who date Chinese girls: “Do you date them because you feel lonely in China?” They said definitely not. Most of them have jobs and friends in Beijing and it is such a charming city for them to explore. If loneliness could be cured by dating, life would be so pointless. There are so many things to do in life. Who would spend time and energy on a girl they have no feeling for?
I asked my boyfriend why he chose me. I was silenced by his question, “why not?” “Is it because of curiosity?” He said: “why do I have curiosity of Chinese women? When I met you, I didn’t remind myself that you were Chinese.”
I could not continue questioning any further since I clearly know that for them, especially Americans, every individual is equal to love and to be loved. It sounds silly to date someone because of curiosity. Even so, it is not necessary to date them. They can just be friends.
There is no doubt that people can still find plenty of reasons and examples to argue with me, such as with unhappy intercultural marriages or any tragedies related to foreign boyfriends. I need to say, any couple has the possibility to break up because of countless reasons. Instead of spending time thinking why they date Chinese, it is more meaningful for Chinese women to think whether he is your type or not because if he is, there should be no boundaries in love. He is just a man who loves you.
What an interesting article. However, what about Chinese males dating foreign women? what about gay foreign males dating young Chinese lads? And why Chinese women or Chinese men have to sell themselves to white people? Apparently this article is just to make readers smile a little. But the real problem is somewhere else.
