Briton Patrick Cormak Cusack charged with molestation
02 August 2012
An engineer who came to Singapore for a 2 1/2-month training stint in April has been accused of breaking the law.
Patrick Cormak Cusack, 39, was charged in a district court yesterday with allegedly using criminal force to outrage the modesty of a 29-year-old woman and abusing a police sergeant.
Court documents indicate that the Briton, who was in a walkway in Clarke Quay at 5.30am on May 1, is alleged to have touched the woman's groin.
He is also said to have used abusive language on Sergeant Nazri Ahmad, who was at the scene.
Arguing for the $5,000 police bail to continue, defence counsel S. Radhakrishnan said his client, a married father of four, had no criminal record anywhere in the world.
The court heard that Cusack's family in Londonderry in Northern Ireland is sending money to him.
With these funds, the engineer will return to court tomorrow to post a personal bond to ensure his presence at future court hearings.
Mr Radhakrishnan had earlier told the court that he plans to get the molestation charge reduced and for the case to be compounded with a payment to the woman.
If convicted on the outrage of modesty charge, Cusack could be jailed for up to two years and fined or caned.
For using abusive language to a public servant on duty, he could be fined up to $5,000 or jailed for up to a year.
Scary country where police and gangs set up Britons for scams. My advice give Singapore a miss unless your prepared to pay out thousands for something that you didn't do. Fair trail, democracy and down right decency don't exsist!!
