If you’ve ever wondered why Zhejiang has a penchant for drawing successful businessmen from its ranks, then you probably won’t be surprised to know of the “22 Rules for Zhejiang Businessmen.” Of course, it’s a little seedier than what you’d find in business ethics books, but it seems to be pretty spot on from what we know of Zhejiang businessmen and their practices: Jiaren.com lovingly calls them the “Jews of the Orient,” which we guess is a compliment?

Zhejiang businessmen’s 22 golden rules
If you’ve ever wondered why Zhejiang has a penchant for drawing successful businessmen from its ranks, then you probably won’t be surprised to know of the “22 Rules for Zhejiang Businessmen.” Of course, it’s a little seedier than what you’d find in business ethics books, but it seems to be pretty spot on from what we know of Zhejiang businessmen and their practices: Jiaren.com lovingly calls them the “Jews of the Orient,” which we guess is a compliment?
Some of the more salient advice, summarized from Jiaren:
1. Always watch CCTV- In order to grasp the “economic lifeline” of China’s businessmen, you have to keep up on news and politics, and of course there’s no better way of doing that than by watching CCTV1 religiously. You don’t need to pay attention to oil prices, interviews, or even catastrophic events like 9/11.
8. Don’t go to bed with advantageous or contentious women- No matter how attractive they are, women you work with directly or on business deals are bad to sleep with for two reasons: one, they’re kill you without you even knowing you’re dead, and two, you may be half businessman, but you’re also a meat eater.
9. Don’t trust your women with business secrets- No matter how much faith you have in your wife, don’t talk about business. First off, they probably won’t understand, and worse, they might end up putting you in jail. Remember, this is as important as never giving your business card to a hooker at a KTV!
12. Don’t evade taxes, avoid them- Everyone knows the usefulness of a receipt, and how they can turn school funds into savings. And remember, you don’t even know how thoroughly your tax returns will be checked, so go crazy!
